Job Description

Dean Group's Manufacturing division is now recruiting for Materials Handler/Batch Operators for one of our clients in Cambridge.

Job Title: Materials Handler / Batch Operator
Employment Type: Contract to Permanent
Pay Rate: $22.00/hour

Shift: Days; Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
Location: Cambridge, ON

Job Summary:
This role is a mix of responsibilities, including material handling, batching operations, and eventually some computer based tasks. The ideal candidate will be safety focused, detail oriented, and able to work as part of a team in a fast paced production environment.

Please note: this position requires candidates to be clean shaven in order to meet PPE requirements for respirator use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate tow motor/forklift and hand bombing as needed.
  • Receive and store raw materials using the FIFO method.
  • Match documentation with physical raw materials.
  • Select and supply raw materials to production tanks.
  • Mix and batch chemicals according to established formulas.
  • Work with fragrances/scents and chemicals safely and effectively.
  • Wear a respirator when required (must complete a fit test).
  • Provide QA samples and adjust batches as required.
  • Clean tanks and equipment after use.
  • Assist with other departmental tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Communicate material shortages or issues to the Production Manager.
  • Use ERP/computer systems and MS Office Suite to track and record production.

 Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years in a manufacturing role; chemical manufacturing or machine operation experience an asset.
  • Forklift/Tow Motor experience required.
  • Comfortable working with chemicals, fragrances, and wearing PPE.
  • Strong understanding of English (written and verbal).
  • Basic math skills for batching formulas.
  • Computer literacy (ERP systems, MS Suite).
  • Ability to follow instructions carefully.
  • Willingness to stand and observe for extended periods during training (approximately 3 weeks).
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and GHS an asset.
  • Must be clean-shaven to meet PPE respirator requirements.
